  • A.G. Leventis Gallery (2014)

    A. G.Leventis Gallery in Nicosia opened in 2014 to house art the private collections of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, over 800 works of object d’ art, a large part of which belonged to the personal collection of art lover Anastasios G. Leventis. Participating in the creation of this remarkable project has proved an interesting challenge and gave me also the opportunity to become involved in various aspects of the project. 360° Virtual Tour link:

On the ground floor of the Gallery, Anastasios G. Leventis is ‘personified’ through the display of the objects he used in his everyday life, such as furniture, office equipment and medals. They trigger the visitor’s imagination, transporting them to the world of this outstanding personality. Displaying these pieces in such a manner works as an ideal introduction for the visitors. They are given the opportunity to get to know the man whose personal art collection was the inspiration for the creation of the Gallery that bears his name. 360° Virtual Tour link:

We used a completely different approach in the presentation of the objets d’art in the display cases on the first and second floors. These items, chosen tastefully and with love by their owners, who had used them to decorate their tables, bookcases and shelves, are now displayed in a gallery, an indication of their true value. Visitors will encounter exquisite decorative objects, such as Meissen porcelain figures. 360° Virtual Tour link:

The Cyprus Collection contains paintings from the first generation of Cypriot artists. A particular challenge that we dealt with during the creation of the Gallery was the repatriation of Adamantios Diamantis’ The World of Cyprus, which will now be an important feature in the Collection. Due to the large size of the work the exhibition space needed to be specially designed to accommodate it. It also required a specific type of display case for its protection and maintenance. This striking painting dominates the room; it begins a dialogue with both the visitor and the artworks by the artists of the same generation.

The furniture for the shop, the orientation and information area and the offices was designed to serve the Gallery’s operational requirements without breaking the clean, simple lines, the materials and the aesthetic that characterise the architecture of the building. 360° Virtual Tour link:
